Raising children is no simple task. Although parenting can be emotionally and intellectually draining, the challenge comes with daily doses of love and laughter that make it all worth it. Inna Sacali, an artist from Moldova, is well-known for putting both sides of motherhood into brutally honest yet entertaining comics that any parent can relate to. She gets inspiration from her baby and illustrates her everyday life with her family. We compiled our favorite illustrations from Inna’s Instagram to take a look at the daily struggles mothers have to go through. If you have experienced the gift of being a parent, you’ll probably relate to these quirky illustrations. If not—here’s a glimpse of what it’s like to be a mom without all the sugar-coating.
1. Leaving Your Baby Alone When You’re Changing Their nappies
No matter how much parents love their babies, there’s no way they’ll want to change their diapers. We can’t blame them; the task is utterly disgusting. But as it has to be done, parents get used to it. While most diaper changes are relatively painless, there are times when the exact opposite happens. For example, when you need to leave your kid alone for a few seconds to look for a clean diaper.

As we see in the comic, babies can crawl around the room when left alone and leave a dirty mess behind. We feel sorry for any parent who has to clean up such a disaster.
2. Children Love Repetition One thing kids never get bored of is watching and hearing the same things over and over again. You can try playing a new game, teaching a new song, showing a new TV program, or simply making a new silly face, and they’ll ask you to it a hundred times more. Apart from having fun, toddlers feel comforted by repeated actions because they can always know what to expect.

This comic depicts the moment when your child asks you to repeat something that made them laugh. The first couple of times are cute, but it surely becomes tedious after many repetitions.
3. Mealtime Isn’t Peaceful Anymore When you’re alone with your partner, meals can be the perfect moment to spend time together after a long workday. However, mealtimes stop being peaceful once you have a baby. You want your kids to eat so that they grow up healthily, but that isn’t an easy task. Young children mess around, shout, and get distracted easily. They prefer to throw food from the table instead of eating it.

4. Motherhood May Look Great in Pictures, but Real Life Is Different
Instagram makes everything look pretty, effortless, and attractive. We spend our day scrolling through the beautiful shots of parents having fun with their children and wondering if it’s possible to have such a perfect life. However, people only post what they want you to see. There’s a lot going on behind the camera for those photos to look incredible. Still, no one wants to show the messy process on social media.

5. Using Tricks to Make Your Child Do What You Want
Much to the universal dismay of parents, children often ignore requests and directions on purpose. As a mother or father, a significant part of your energy goes toward trying to outsmart your toddler and convince them to do what you want them to do. Unfortunately, repeating requests over and over never works. Thus, you have to think about a clever way to ask them, for example, to brush their teeth.

6. Exhaustion Is Part of Everyday Life
Early motherhood is a stage of life that you can’t pass through smoothly. It’s a tough time when you don’t get enough sleep and don’t eat the way you should. Besides, having many worries in your mind doesn’t allow you to rest well when you have some free time to do so. Thus, your energy is always drained because you keep running around the house to keep your child content.

7. Dealing With Routine Changes
There’s no doubt that having a child is one of the most heartfelt moments in a woman’s life. However, nothing truly gets you ready for how much your life changes when you become a parent. Most mothers assume that their date nights will be numbered and that they’ll lose tons of sleep. Still, not everyone knows that daily routines are also transformed when your new bundle of joy arrives home

8. Children Never Want to Go to Bed
In most families, bedtime is the most challenging moment of the day. Kids often refuse to go to sleep at night, and parents are too tired to deal with it. You know they’re tired because you can see their eyes drooping and their mouth wide open from yawning. Still, right after you say, “it’s time to go to bed,” they become alert and start running around the house like crazy.

9. Children Don’t Seem to Understand the Word “No”
Saying “no” is hard for most parents. However, it’s even harder to make a child understand what the word “no” means. It seems like the more you ask them not to do a specific thing, the more they’ll do it. They find it tempting to challenge you and do the exact opposite of what you’re telling them to do. They’re so cheeky that they even feel proud of themselves after disobeying you.

10. Staying Calm When Something Happens to Your Child
Because of their lack of experience and understanding of the world, children are more prone to suffering silly accidents. No matter how attentive and careful you’re as a parent, it’s hard to keep a watchful eye on them all day. Don’t worry, though. It happens to every mom and dad. What matters the most is staying calm if anything goes out of control to solve it as fast as possible.
